A Sunny Welcome
It is a great honor to serve as President of the Society on NeuroImmune Pharmacology. The Society has long provided a unique scientific home for investigators working across neuroscience, immunology, pharmacology, infectious disease, substance use research, and translational science. I am grateful to our Past President, Dr. Linda Chang, along with our Council, committee chairs, and members whose leadership continues to strengthen the Society.
Our mission remains focused on advancing our understanding of neuroimmune mechanisms across HIV, substance use disorders, aging, neurodegeneration, and other conditions associated with neuroinflammation, while translating these discoveries into new therapeutic approaches.
This vision will guide our 31st Annual Scientific Conference, planned for Florida in spring 2027, under the theme “Innovation through Team Science and Novel Methodological Approaches.” With guidance from our Meetings Committee, the program will highlight approaches such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, team science, advanced technologies, tissue-engineered platforms and more.
Supporting the next generation of scientists also remains a core priority. I especially recognize our Treasurer, Dr. Allison M. Andrews, whose leadership was instrumental in securing our recent NIDA/NIH R13 conference award (R13 DA063455-01), providing important support for early career investigator participation.
Our official journal, NeuroImmune Pharmacology and Therapeutics (NIPT), remains another important part of the Society’s scientific mission. Its continued growth reflects the collective efforts of the Editor-in-Chief (Dr. Howard E. Gendelman), Managing Editor, Senior Editors, Section Editors, and Editorial Board, and it provides an important venue for sharing discoveries while furthering the Society’s commitment to scientific excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
As we look ahead, the Society will continue to be a place where bold ideas are welcomed, collaborations are formed, young scientists are supported, and new disciplines and technologies are brought together. I look forward to working with all of you and to welcoming you to Florida for the 31st Annual Scientific Conference in 2027.
